Learning songs
Thinking back about how technology has changed over the past 25 years. For Musicians it has been a Godsend, now we can record ourselves with our computers and put it out into the World. Thinking back to the 1990's when you would have to be signed to a Record label that would completely control you and your music. I had to co-sign for my Daughter "Leah" who was in a Rock band and they got singed to Warner Music Canada, They broke up after 2 albums and 4 videos. It was a fun time for her but looking back at the contract we signed it was all in favour of the Record company. Luckily, we got our of it without getting screwed around. When i started recording my own albums in 2005, i created my own Record label, Worldhouse records, i called it. I paid for the Studio and the Producer out of my pocket. The technology that had advanced so rapidly enabled someone like my self to do that. When my daughter was in the band "Live on release", that was unthinkable. It still wasn't cheap, but it was a fraction of what it cost a decade earlier. So,is it a better time to be a musician now? i would say yes, back in the Record company days, sure some people would make it big and get rich, but how many stories have we heard of big name people being broke. Or being told what was acceptable by Record company guys. Now, very few Musicians make enough money to live on, but they have complete freedom in their Art. Jamming tonight with a guy who had a tablet and could dial up songs in seconds for us to play, i am still amazed, i am still going to my Songbooks and turning the pages. But having my songs being played all around the world still makes my head spin.
Good helpful content.
