I came across this bhajan through a wedding video. The song in the video was, even more, sweeter but I could not find it.

Music has such a great healing power that one should not underestimate its powers. Music stirs up emotions that cannot be achieved otherwise.

This bhajan is in Bengali language and has been written by Narottam Das Thakura and has been popularised by ISCKON. There are several versions, online.

What is a bhajan?

A bhajan is a devotional song, sung in praise of God. It is of simple lyrics, often repeated so that others can follow. A bhajan is like the meditation version of music where the soul chants a mantra in a musical way.

During a bhajan session, two or three singers lead the audience. The lead singer sings a line and the others repeat it. Accompanying instruments are usually the mrudanga, tabla, harmonium, flute, hand cymbals and so on. Some singers have also introduced the violin and the guitar.

Clapping of hands

If you have watched a bhajan video, you would have noticed that people clap their hands during songs and it is in tune with the music which makes the atmosphere vibrant and positive. It is believed that clapping of hands is like a yoga which enhances health. Dancing also helps a lot.
