Playing Dead Original Ukulele Song by Sarah Jordan

in #music5 years ago

I wrote Playing Dead about a terrible experience at a silent meditation retreat. I've been playing ukulele for 11 months.

I own the rights to this song. By the way, I've noticed that many musicians who write their own songs sort of look down on people who only play cover songs. I feel that both are valuable. I felt like writing my own song was no big deal (it took me 5 minutes) where as it took me a month or longer to learn some of the cover songs I play on the ukulele.

Playing Dead Lyrics:
Enlightenment, it's really not for me
Familiar guilt, wrapped in gold and burgundy
I don't know why, I didn't listen to myself
shut my eyes, like a doll upon a shelf
Don't play dead, don't be like them
Don't play dead, don't be like them
This nightmare is a little bit too real
But there's no such thing as the karmic wheel
I won't say that, that it's greedy to want more
And there's no way, your Buddha's keeping score
Don't play dead, don't be like them
Don't play dead, don't be like them
Intuition, it slithers in my skin
This playing dead is the only sin
Rebellion, probably saved my life
Cut right through your programming like a knife
Don't play dead, don't be like them
Don't play dead, don't be like them
