General facts about music - What is a tone/sound?

A periodic oscillation produces a tone. The generators of such vibrations can be instruments, synthesizers or other. An oscillation is a movement that regularly returns around a resting point. The number of oscillations per second gives a frequency. (f) A single complete oscillation is given the name 1Hertz. The pitch is determined by the number of vibrations per second.
We humans hear between 20 and 20,000 Hertz.
