An Experiment in Passivity -- Day 3 -- A Warm Bath & a Cold Shower
What happens to you when you are passive on Steemit? On day 1 my Steemit reputation was 54.858, it's day 3 and to my surprise it has actually risen to 54.924. But the estimated value of my account continues to dwindle. So don't be tempted to go passive.
- If you are here for the first time, I put a note and the bottom of the post that explains my experiment.
A Warm Bath
So yesterday was almost a parody of contrasts, a feeling that is so aptly expressed in German as "Wechselbad der Gefühle." The warm bath was the publication on the web's most popular jazz site of my interview two of the best electric guitarists on the planet, the legendary John McLaughlin and the incredible Jimmy Herring. It was the most read article in the past 24 hours with over 8,800 views.
A Cold Shower
Then I checked my Steemit post from yesterday. Total votes 8, now that's a cold shower. So nearly nine thousand views vs. 8. But I'm not discouraged (yet.) Actually I am thoroughly enjoying the exchange you you guys, and I really enjoy and appreciate everyone who is in this little loop.
What I have to share with you today fits nicely with my current interview and also my post from yesterday.
Through my interviews I've become buddies with a really nice guy who owns a music label. He could be in Silicon Valley, but he chose to follow his dream and founded a label dedicated to, in his words: "The center of the new musical universe. Jazz, instrumental, progressive and world music portal. Music with BALLS."
He's very fair with his artists, respects their artistic integrity, and as a result has some of the best electric guitarists with jazz chops on the planet. He also has creative ideas, and this is one of them.
A Super Group with 3 Guitarist's Guitarists
What does Guitarist's Guitarist mean? A guitarist's guitarist is someone whom other guitarists among themselves cite as a great guitarist. Of course such a band needs a drummer's drummer, and a bassist's bassist. Just before this super group went on their first tour, before they had ever played together, I interviewed the entire band.
I mentioned yesterday that Steely Dan used the best of the best on their recordings. Guitarist Wayne Krantz and drummer Keith Carlock both worked with Steely Dan, in fact Keith toured with them often -- no need to write this all out if you listen to the interview.
They all have extremely busy schedules and lots of commitments, so they only had time to rehearse for a couple of days before going out on tour. Here's how I described them on my site:
On this episode I speak with all three guitarists from The Ringers: Jimmy Herring, Wayne Krantz, & Michael Landau, plus their fantastic drummer, Keith Carlock. The band brings together five extraordinary musicians, world class players who collectively have recorded and toured with many of the best known and most respected artists on the planet. Steely Dan, Michael Jackson, Bonnie Raitt, Seal, Sting, Joni Mitchell, John Mayer, James Taylor, the Allman Brothers Band and m.m.
These are musicians’ musicians, guys who put the music first, and who want to have fun on stage playing to people who love music.
Or you can stream it at my site
Before each musician you can hear a brief sample of their music
The Ultimate Guitarist's Guitarist
Just before I spoke to these 3 world class guitarists, I discovered a guitarist who could be considered the ultimate guitarist's guitarist. I consider myself a pretty big guitar fan, yet I had never heard of Lenny Breau until I happened upon this YouTube clip. I was completely blown away, so I used this opportunity to ask these three guitarists about him. Naturally, they all knew about him. When you get some free time, this is really worth watching.
Wahnsinn :-0
hier bekommt man einen Eindruck
Your reputation should hopefully never go down just due to inactivity - it goes up when people with higher reputation upvote you, and it goes down if they FLAG you - but flags are rare for most users, they're meant to be used on spammers and plagiarists, etc
BTW, that was a cool post about Steem millionaires!
Thanks for cluing me in on the reputations. So your 65 rep has been pumpin' me up. What's the highest reputation you've ever come across?
Really great of you to resteem, much appreciated!
I saw an account with 78 rep the other day, that was the highest that I know of. I think there might be a 79 out there somewhere. its an exponential thing, I felt like i was getting a new rank every day or two before I hit 62ish and then it slowed down a ton.
That's an interesting thought. If you have the highest rep, is there anything that can increase it?
Not sure how it works at that point... maybe other super high rep people can still give you a small boost even if you're a bit higher than them.
