I homeschooled my kids and music appreciation was an important part. Mozart was one of the composers they really liked (unlike Chopin). I always felt that people should be able to recognize at least a few of the major composers to be well rounded. If you like Classical music you should check out Giuliani (if you're not familiar) He introduced the guitar to Classical. I suggest his Guitar Concerto #3 in F Major.
