"My Love" Paul McCartney & Wings 1973

Many of us are huge Paul McCartney fans. Whats not to like - it seems like Paul is probably one of the catchiest writers of all time (and a pretty good singer and musician!). His approach to music was entirely different than John Lennon which is probably why they were so good together - and ultimately why they broke up.

Paul hears melody and cares nothing about the lyrics. I remember he gave an interview once that when he wrote "Yesterday" he was singing "Long legs and scrambled eggs". This is of course part of the process - you might know the song before the words. For John the message was important the music was just a medium.

Lyrics, anger and pain were what defined John. Paul had the best voice out of the group arguably - but what stood him apart was his ability to craft beautiful melodies that the Beatles would later enhance with instrumentation and stacked harmonies.

I think "My Love" and possibly "Maybe im amazed" are the best songs Paul ever wrote. "Yesterday" is the obvious candidate - but hearing his unadulterated "solo" work - really gives us a wonderful look into his unique melodic mind!
