RE: Nikita - A Popular Girl's Name? Thank Elton John & Luc Besson
Funny (not in a laughing way) how media influences so many. Of course the answer to your observation in the enlightened first world (and how did we go from 1st world to 3rd world, who exactly belongs in the 2nd world?) is that the names use previously was done by those who failed to understand intersectional thought. Clearly before the gender was being assumed, assuming there was even a gender at all.
Reminds me of that song A Boy Named Sue, only in reverse. Appreciate these posts as you continue to challenge my preconceived notions/help me see others.
This is so funny. I thought about referencing A Boy Named Sue, but I was afraid that most people wouldn't have ever heard the song. However, that is exactly what Russians think when they hear of a girl named Nikita.
I believe everyone thought of the Eastern Bloc as "2nd World", but who knows.
I'm not even sure if we are allowed to use the word "gender" anymore if we are straight, white males. I am sure I just offended half my American audience with that statement.
