What are Opening Titles?

"In a motion picture, television program or video game, the opening credits or opening titles are shown at the very beginning and list the most important members of the production. They are now usually shown as text superimposed on a blank screen or static pictures, or sometimes on top of action in the show." Wikipedia

This week I wanted to present a piece that I wrote for a shot film about memory. This is for the opening of the film, and thus has a significance to the rest of the story.

I don't want to spoil the short for whoever will see it, but I do want to talk about the process. Memory plays funny tricks on us. In movies, it usually challenges us more than everyday life with examples such as Memento, Inception, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, etc. This particular short pieces together a shattered memory from head trama due to an accident. What's left is snippits of a tragedy and glimpses into a psychological drama. I wanted to score it in such a way that doesn't give away it's less than happy plot twists by creating a musical framework that represents a shattered memory. All the themes are hinted slightly or "quoted" in the opening and are used later to explain elements of the plot.
