Long Pop Improvisation - Playing over simple chord progressions.

in #music6 years ago

Hello Steemit!

Yesterday I was warming up and having fun to this little pop progression , sometimes it is challenging to hold a decent story over very simple progressions as it is hard to keep an interesting melodic development to what is a very predictable chord sequence.

If you are keeping a fairly simple approach when it comes to note choice there are other elements you can explore to keep the development somewhat engaging. One of my favorite things to do is switch right hand techniques often , go from a finger style to a picking approach to create dynamic contrast and tonal change. Your right hand is the most effective EQ effect in the market by far , by moving positions and changing dynamics you can create a wide variety of sounds. Playing with the guitar volume is another great way to create different tones , the guitar doesn't always have to be on 10 , I would definitely recommend you exploring where you set your guitar's volume when playing a particular passage.

This whole improvisation was made by using the bridge pickup and no sound change whatsoever , all sound changes come from minor adjustments in the right hand and playing with the volume pot , also .. if you get to the end .. the backing track cuts on me and it ends in a little blooper hehehehe... this was live :D so I left it in.. no edits! mistakes come in practice and also in live playing..so, nothing wrong with those!

I hope you enjoy !
