FELA KUTI

This is the month of his birth.
His name was "Fela Anikulakpo Kuti" popularly known as "Fela" or "Fela Kuti ". He was an African, Nigerian, civil rights activist, politician and musician. With his music he did not only address the social and political issues facing his country and continent, he also managed to put his continent and country on the bright side of the world map through the creation of a new genre of music known as "Afrobeat " ( you should listen to it).
Fela Kuti was a very concious human being, "Fela" was socially, politically and environmentally concious. "Fela" was a pan Africanist, philanthropist and a very ardent marijuana smoker. "Fela" played the tenor saxophone, trumpet, keyboard,guitar and drumset. He was one of the greatest musicians to ever emerge from Africa. It is in this sense that "Felabration " which is a week long festival promoting music, arts and also celebrating the life and works of this icon was created. "Felabration" starts this October in Lagos, Nigeria at the very residence "Fela" resided before his death and it is called "The Kalakuta Republic ", it is located in the heart of Lagos,Nigeria. .. Nigeria loves you "Fela". .. In honour of this legend, I will be taking it upon myself to update you on facts you never knew about "Fela Kuti " till 15th of October which is his birthday .
