What is Classical JAZZ ?

And what is Classic Jazz? Like classical music jazz incorporates many, many different genres and many musical concepts.
Jazz can have the light sound of pop music such as Astrud Gilberto on the one hand and swing all the way over to the heavy
contemplative music of say a Miles Davis or a John Coltrane - And it covers hundreds of types and styles in between.

So I'm thinking I need some Jazz to wake me up and make my day - As you know there is a ton it available free on the internet.
So I'm remembering a Stan Getz album i heard many years ago, and I believe it was also a 'big band' orchestra sound - And I remember it - It was equal to, if not ahead of its time - I don't find it {reply with the title if you remember it} - And what I find is a bunch of Stan Getz doing those old sounding {to me} jazz riffs you've heard over and over again - And they sound old and dated, again my opinion.
So the question here is when is a jazz composition classic - Classic in that it does not matter when it was done - It sounds and plays well today - Just as it did 20 to 50 years ago.
So I think of Eddie Harris {'Exodus to Jazz'} which was actually on the pop charts way back when, or Dave Brubeck
{'Take Five}} another Jazz hit that crossed-over to the pop charts.
Another group, maybe not as well known by the world of popular music, but very well known by Jazz fans, was the MJQ
{Modern Jazz Quartet}, an easier listening type of jazz that still has it fans today.

Classic Jazz is like classical music, in that it does not date, does not become dated - You heard it years ago, You can listen to
it now and for as long as you live it is music you want to take with you - And turn other people on to it.

Like I say Classic Jazz will never become dated - It defines a moment in time that extends out into the infinite reaches of mind and space!!!
