The famous motif was created in the 1970s and was said by designer John Pasche to resemble Mick Jagger’s own lips and capture the band’s rebelliousness.

Good article on the most recognizable logos of all time. Of course the Rolling Stones are number one, who doesn't know the lips and tongue? I think I'd recognize everything on the list, which probably means I need to get out more, lol.
