Van Cliburn plays Chopin Ballade No.3 in A flat Op.47

in #music6 years ago (edited)

I hardly knew an American pianist, Van Cliburn until I read a book, “Moscow Nights” (「ホワイトハウスのピアニスト」) written by Nigel Cliff last year. Since then, he has been the only man in the world that I can call my good friend. He is dead and it may be a selfish belief, though.

Listen to his tone. Noble! I listened to performances by some pianists for this piece on YouTube. No one satisfied me except Van. His interpretation and playing appeal me straight. The same thing that happened to Sviatoslav Richter happened to me. Richter was a judge in the first International Tchaikovsky Competition which Van appeared in 1958.
