Shura - Touch (The best song of the past few years you didn't hear)
I love this record. I used to work curating music videos and I keep coming back to this song. It's a song that touches on a sort of 80's vibe, but not in a mocking or ironic way. Instead it's this synth dreamhaze that hangs in the air, sticking with you past the three and a half minutes of the song. Shura tells a story of loss, of one's own emotions betraying them, desire, and ultimately resolvement. It's about the struggle of the brain versus other organs, of the past and the future, of confusion and frustration. It's a song that sticks with you as you move on. A week later, you track it down and hit play and feel old emotions stir up, and hate the places your mind wanders.
Shura's album, Nothing's Real, was one of my favorites of 2015. 2Shy, and What's it Gonna Be, are great tracks as well, but nothing hits as high as this song does. Nothing pierces as deep. Nothing gives me the thrill and sorrow, like mixing a percocet and adderall. I've shared this with a lot of people and most people are taken with it. I now share it with you.
