Music-Introduction to one of my favourite bands- The Boxer Rebellion

Today I'd like to introduce you to The Boxer Rebellion, an indie band which I only discovered in 2013.The band was formed in London in 2001 when Tennessee -native Nathan Nicholson(vocals,guitar,keyboard)Andrew Smith(lead guitar) Adam Harrison(bass guitar)and Piers Hewitt(drums) joined forces.
They have so far released an EP as well as 5 studio albums- Exits(2005);Union(2009);The Cold Still(2011);Promises(2013) and the most recent Ocean by Ocean(2016).They also released a Compilation album ,B sides and Rarities vol 1 and 2(2012).

Their first single "Watermelon" released in 2003 is a combination of grunge,guitars and noise with some powerful vocals.A strong release to kick start their careers.

I did not really get hooked on this prior to the release of "Promises".I recall 2012/2013 being a really strong years in the music industry with releases like Mumford and Sons-"Babel",Of Monsters and Men-"My Head is an Animal",Kings of Leon-"Mechanical Bull",Bruce Springsteen-"Wrecking Ball" and Arcade Fire-"Reflektor".The "Promises" album released by The Boxer Rebellion was every bit as good to my ears as these other albums.
The album starts off in fine style with "Diamonds" a catchy pop song with a great hook.

Next is "Fragile" an up tempo song with superb drumming, jangling guitar and the usual accomplished vocals by Nathan....love this song

There is a bit of everything on "Promises" including synth,great percussion and even 80's new wave influences that come through on a few of the tracks.This album is a keeper and a real treasure.

In Ocean by Ocean the band seeks to be more intimate with a few slower songs with more use of syntsh.This is not necessarily a bad thing.On first hearing I felt this album was not quite as strong as it's predecessor and I still feel this way.There are however some really good tracks.
