May 14th will mark the celebration night in the Concert Hall 'Lisinski', Zagreb. For all his fans and music lovers, this will be the date when – after a longer while – they will be able to enjoy the concert of – across the whole region, in history once known as Yugoslavia – a very popular singer-songwriter Boris Novković.

Just a little reminder of the crucial facts in Boris’ life: he came to Earth in Sarajevo on the significant date – Christmas Day of 1997. The first guitar – which he still bewares, as he claims – was given to him as a present at the age of 13. Having music around him and in his ears from the earliest childhood, he ’conquered’ the chords in no time.

His mother, Ozana was a music teacher and his father, the late Đorđe, was one of the most productive and utmost successful composers of popular music from the 60’s on, until the day he unexpectedly died in 2007 from heart failure at the age of 63.

When Boris was barely over 15, his song „Bongo, Bongo“ found its way in 1983 on the LP-record „Djevuška“ by a very popular Croatian band „Srebrna Krila“ Being very talented, Boris repeatedly denied the gossip that his father’s name helped him get into the music business by presenting his own style already on his first album „KUDA IDU IZGUBLJENE DJEVOJKE“, that he recorded at the age of 20.

The mega yu-hit from this album was „Tamara“.

Hits were following each other through the years, Boris’ career blossomed and for this occasion I chose to remind you of the most inevitable:
(
)

In the initial year of this century, Novković released his 10th studio-album – „DIREKT“.

I was doing a series of interviews for my German Radio-station WDR, just at the time the yearly commercial results from Boris’ discographer, Croatia Records were being summarized, which also coincided with the virtually-creative pre-production of the cd „Ko je kriv“ (‘Who’s to blame?’) in duet with ultra-popular Croatian star Severina

So, I came to an, on short notice pre-ordered, appointment with Boris at Dom Sportova, during the audio-rehearsal for the concert of Croatia Records’ stars to be held that same evening. I spotted him immediately – not only because he was the tallest and (women will undoubtedly say) the most attractive looking guy in the crowd, but also while – as an experienced esoteric – I sensed certain positive vibrations spreading all around him.

He made our introducing very spontaneous and after I congratulated him on the awards „Zlatna Ptica“ (‘Golden Bird’) and „Kristalna Gitara“ (‘The Crystal Guitar’), which he got as the best-selling artist in his record-company, who sold over half a million music carriers in the period between 1986 and 2002, we finally sat in the local coffee-shop, he turned off his cell and we got to work...

In his 5th attempt Boris (feat. National Folk Dance Ensemble of Croatia, ‘Lado’) finally wins the „DORA“-competition and gets a chance to represent Croatia at the Grand Prix Eurovision contest in Kyiv, Ukraine, with the song „Vukovi umiru sami“ (“Wolves die alone“).

In the same year, 2005, Croatia Records released the double album ZLATNA KOLEKCIJA (‘The Golden Collection’) with 36 biggest Boris Novković’s hits.

He appears on the stage of Concert Hall “Lisinski” in late 2006 at the very emotionally filled gig in favor of his ‘First 20 years of career’, which is also available on the double live cd.
During these two decades of his career, Boris often collaborates with other colleagues and interpreters.

)

He is also taking credit for initiating Tony Cetinski’s career for whom he wrote a couple of early hits and more recently recorded the video-duet “Nek’ se raduje”.
(

)

Novković is a co-author of the Dora’s winning song “Moja štikla”, too, presented by Severina at the Eurosong contest, held in Baku, Azerbaijan, and Boris’ songs were sang by many popular local singers like Tajchi, Daniela, Klinci s Ribnjaka etc.

(

)

Until now Boris recorded 15 studio-albums, two live records and six compilations.
His band's name is "Noćna Straža" ('The Night Watch')

From 2008 he set the tempo of three years to release new material, but he skipped 2017 except for the single “Ti si mi posljednja nada”:

… and the title song for the TV-series “Čista Ljubav”.

Hopefully we can expect the new album in this year of his 30th jubilee in business.

And finally: you know how people say: one can be lucky in gambling, but then not in love and vice versa. Well, Boris was never a gambler – but his love-life is running in periods, at least judging by the fact that he was three times married and three times divorced. In spite of that – though such circumstances are for public persons or for stars very often the source of various scandals – that was never the case with Boris, either in private life or on the public scene. That is why – along with his commercial success in music, he always was and he will be THE GOLDEN BOY.

There is also one more very important ingredient of Boris Novković’s musical career and that is that he is in friendly relations with all his colleagues.
When I asked him some 15 years ago how he foresees his future in music, he replied that he would feel fulfilled if he would be making new music also after the age of 50.
At the end of last year Boris turned 50.
He’s still very much up there – alive & kickin’!
Come and see on May 14th in the Concert Hall 'Lisinski', Zagreb - yourselves!
