"The Spirit of Fela Isn't Anywhere Near Kanye" — Seun Kuti

in #music6 years ago (edited)

Some hip hop gist for your feed. It's about Kanye West and sadly doesn't feature his "father figure", Donald Trump.

Seun Kuti, son of music legend Fela Kuti, over the weekend denounced Kanye West's claim that the spirit of his father, Fela, flows in him (Kanye).

"I am the best living recording artist," Kanye said in a video, before going on to say "the spirit of Fela, the spirit of Marley, the spirit of Pac flows through me."

Oluseun Kuti, commonly known as Seun Kuti, who along with his brother Femi have kept the music fire in the family flaming, took to Instagram sharing the Kanye video with the following remarks.

"Erm erm on behalf of the Kuti family I want to state that the spirit of Olufela Anikulapo Kuti isn’t anywhere near Kanye West."

Hahaha! What a berating!

Well, Seun didn't stop there, he passed the buck to Ziggy Marley, Robert Marley's son, to redeem his father's legacy from a Kanye smear. Interesting stuff, aint it?

You can't deny that this is a fallout of Kanye's show at the White House last week, one which a lot of people in the black community, in the Americas and Africa, have expressed displeasure in.

One thing is certain, Kanye West is filled with the spirit of the Kardashians.

Hey hip hop fans! Apologies if I tainted your taste buds with that news. Here I try to atone with this classic:

howdy from Texas sir misterakpan! I don't know a thing about this kind of music but even then it's easy to spot a flagrant self-promoter and seeker of fame like Kanye West! I think you nailed his personality with this line."Kanye West is filled with the spirit of the Kardashians."

lol! that says it all. Very interesting post and a revelation of this Kanye West matter.

Well put. West does not even have a spirit. He is an empty shell. He sold everything a man should stand for, let alone an artist, let alone a black artist.

I don't like Kanyes political views or his insane self promoting.

BUT he is a musical genius! Just listen through "Life of Pablo" or some of his latest releases like:

Fela ko, micheal jackson ni.

Kanye should find where his spiritual energy is flowing from.

He doesnt know a thing about the history of afrobeats or the messages fela passed.

I bet Kanye know a lot more about music than most people. ( But I am not for his political views.)

Do you know Fela Kuti? Are you in Nigeria? If not, i doubt you'll understand the gravity of what Fela did and why Kanye is nowhere near him spiritually.

Kanye is a king in music, ill give him that, he's on my playlists, but there are something he doesn't know...... What a struggle is, is one of them.

And "what a struggle is" sums up the spiritual being called Fela. So I agree Kanye is way out of line.

CHILL!
I just replied to the comment that "Kanye doesn't know a thing a about the history of afrobeat..." .

You can'r separate "the history of Afrobeat" from "the messages Fela passed," and it seems Kanye only took the rhythm patterns and ignored the political figure called Fela, what Fela stood for and put his life in line for: the people. Kanye is a fucking greedy idiot and has no business invoking Fela's spirit, is what Destiny was trying to say, I guess.
