Building guitars on weekends

in #music9 years ago

It's been years now since the first time I decided to give woodworking a go. A way to distract my sometimes overactive brain, eventually the little projects and experiments developed into a side income, and I feel really lucky that this is the case.

If you ever decide to go down the rabbit hole of the DIY community, many things start looking a little different. And tragic events like the hurracaine we just had in Florida also become an opportunity to score some materials.

It's one of those weekends we're I'm inside my shop taking a short break feeling pretty good about how this guitar build is coming along. I intend to share the final results as soon as I can, but if you play guitar you might be able to imagine the finished product.

I'll sign off for now wishing everyone a beautiful and productive weekend.

That looks pretty awesome and promising @meno

thank you for commenting brother! cheers

excellent work......I'm not quite there yet. Carved tops have got me stuttering.....I make a bit easier but still enjoyable cigar box guitars. I do wander off into solid body electrics once in a while. I have a slab of ash thats going to be a tele style soon. check me out at www.stogeebluesbox.com......great work would love to see and hear the final product

i just checked them out bro.. pretty cool I built one of those a long time ago and it was super fun... maybe i should give it another go soon... it would be cool if more and more instrument makers would join steemit... who knows, maybe we can start a little group too

To be honest, I love D.I.Y but most of the time, I lack the practical skill.
But this looks great @meno! I once read that guitar making is about patience over skill so I guess you are a very patient person.

Hello dear @szuri , you might be right on that one... its really a patience heavy activity, there is no way to rush glue into curing or to make lacquer dry faster... but i kind of like it that way.. it feels like an important victory when i finish one. :)

Looks good, man! Nice contours in that body...

Thank you for stopping by brother... I try to add my own twist on the designs, i think it would be kind of boring if I was just making copies... the bad thing is that since i hand make them contours never come out the same hahahah

Nice, meno! Flamed maple glued to alder? I built one white flying V with a padauk pickguard and gold hardware back in the day--stolen a few weeks after I finished it. Worked for Larivee for a spell, too.....I liked him very much as a person but hated his capitalist business model.......Cheers! Nice work:)

the body is mahogany, the top is maple of course... we got a bunch of mahogany trees that came down after the hurricane... I love Larivee guitars by the way, i used to have an O model long time ago... it sounded stupid good... You should get back into building brother, specially if you already pulled it off once, it should not be scary at all..

Dude that looks great! What kind of pups were you thinking about putting in it?

This one is going to have some duncans... a jb and a 59, its already pre sold so i gotta stick to the plan! hahaha but its a killer combination, you can't go wrong with it

That is going to look great. The grain should come up really nice. I have always wanted to have a go at a guitar. Thanks

I would advise anyone who wants to start making guitars to begin with building a kit... its going to make you get the bug, but also help you build the skills gradually

That is going to look great. The grain should come up really nice. I have always wanted to have a go at a guitar. Thanks

So that is a mahagony tree? Fantastic color!

yes it is... good eye!! there is a bunch of mahogany in south florida for some reason!

pero que genial hermano!, lo que puedas compartir en relacion a me interesa, de casualidad sabes como soldar BIEN cables? porque yo no ahahaha, un saludo!
