Music has always had a special place in my life. Together with videogames and books I would hide away with my headphones on and try to drown out the world.

I have been into different genres of music from growing up hearing my sister's music of boybands and new wave, to my parent's love of Frank Sinatra, Perry Como and Anita Baker that can be heard during Sundays.

My own phase of Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots, Green Day, Sound Garden, Pearl Jam, U2, Oasis to Original Pinoy Music (OPM) like Eraserheads, Truefaith, Wolfgang and Parokya ni Edgar. I even had a Heavy and Thrash Metal phase with Metallica, Slayer, Iron Maiden, Pantera and Megadeth. I learned to play the guitar and bass guitar because of these influences.

I also had a Hip hop phase of blasting out the bombs from Tupac, Nas, Eminem, Bone Thugs and Harmony, and I am ashamed to admit being a Kanye fan before he become one with the cult of Kardashians and be an absolute twat.

Now Electronica has a special place in my heart as I made music with it. I was not just a listener as I was passionate about it. I remember having these double Technics SL 1200 bought from a friend's brother who no longer used it. I would lug it around in house parties and gigs. I used to do house and dub techno. Although I never became professional it was always fun to perform for friends who had the same taste in music back then. That feeling of getting the crowd to a fever pitch and then boom! It is an exhilarating feeling.

Digital hadn't catched on yet because the friends I hang out described themselves as purist and so vinyl was still used.

I was always in the lookout for vinyl to use as samples and one of my early practice vinyls were the records of my parents which promptly got me in trouble haha.

I remember going to Cubao Expo or now known as Cubao X and Bangkal Thrift stores to scour for vinyl records. Vintage shops full of eccentric items and unique relics that you cannot find anywhere. You feel like an adventurer finding ancient treasures and hidden finds. When you find a record you have been looking for you it's as if you hit the mother-lode.

Fast forward to adulting

It has been years since I sold off my turn tables and mixers. I had to focus on my studies, get a job and went from a happy-go-lucky kid that spent all his time hanging out and playing video games all day to a serious workaholic.

My normal day would be spending 10-12 hours working one of the many roles I have in my line of work. It really left me little to no time to socialize, play games or talk to friends and sleep only to begin the cycle once again.

The rat race was leaving me feeling burnt out and uninspired. Before long I started having depression episodes again. Food had no taste, video games felt repetitive and once again I shut myself from the world.

Then I found this. I am very thankful to Steemit that it gave me a chance to become creative again. I have started writing again. I was able to exorcise some of the demons in my head. A few are still there but it no longer had the strength it had before. I was okay.

It gave me a second chance to start investing in creative skills again. This year I have started practicing doing Digital art and photo editing in my bid to go beyond my limitations and I want to do music again.

Lately I have been entranced by the Looping Style of music. Although it is not a new as it has been utilized before by a lot of music genres.

Origin of Looping

It is believed to have been originated from electric music from Pierre Schaeffer from 1936 using phonographs and turntables. Later on tape loops replaced turntables but had a resurgence during the birth of Hip-hop on the 1970's with the likes of DJ Grandmaster Flash, Afrika Bambaataa and DJ Kool Herc.

Incidentally I was really sad to see that The Get Down was cancelled after one season because of the astronomical cost of the budget. It had mixed reviews but I personally liked it. The music was good, the colors and fashion brilliant, the language and story line a good effort.

The 1980's music looping gained massive use in the video game industry as the limited space for sound and graphics meant that composers needed to be smart and use repetitions and loops to make themes for different worlds or effects. Prime example is the music used in Super Mario Brothers.

In Rock and Roll, Punk and Heavy Metal the use of distortion pedals and loopers gave birth to wicked solo shreds.

The early 2000- 2015 had the creation of new hardware racks, mixers loopers from Roland and Digitech.
New turntables, computer programs mimicking the effects and functions of multiple equipment
The likes of Daft Punk,Mobi, Fat Boy Slim Joel Thomas Zimmerman, Gorillaz, Zedd, Avicci, David Guetta, Steve Aoki and Skrillex were stars of scene.

We have so many talented artists now that are using looping in making their performance memorable.

One that blew me away was Live Looping using the delay in Facebook Live! It was like mind blown!

A few months ago I was able to catch a performance of a local artist and we got to talking about Looping and how he got into it. JM Quiblat or Quibs is a multi-talented individual who does film, animation, busking suddenly in public, beat boxing and singing using a looper.

He had several bands but also performs solo sessions and it was natural for him to incorporate beatboxing, drums and guitar to do a live looper performance. Using traditional instruments is also a signature of his.

We can't talk about busking and using a looper without showing one of the greatest example of a performer that knows what he is doing. The guy can rap, play any instrument and is an accomplished songwriter.
