OTHERWORLDLY TUNAGE VOLUME III: 14 August 2018
New music series.
Instead of songs in my head upon waking, I just want to share some of my favorite songs.
These are songs that are more in the psychedelic, spacey, stoner, or just plain weird variety. There's a theme, if you will. I will do other themes in the future.
Get blazed, put on your favorite headphones, and come along for the ride.
TODAY'S ENTRY:
Sleepy Sun - Wild Machines
I am a fan of this band in general, but particularly the album on which this song appears, Fever. They do the heavy stoner rock thing that is in some ways similar to bands like Sleep, with more of a laid-back approach as opposed to an amps-always-cranked-to-11 approach. In reality, Sleepy Sun owes as much to Led Zeppelin as they do to Sleep. At this point in their career, their sound was defined by the dual lead singer approach of singers Bret Constantino and Rachel Fannan, which is one of the reasons I like the album so much. Rachel Fannan left the band eventually to pursue other interests, and they continued on with only one vocalist. It's not bad by any means, but it doesn't have the same effect.
The song builds and builds, and seems to howl at points, until exploding. Soaring guitar leads, pounding drums, heartfelt and belted-out vocals... it's all in there as it ebbs and flows.
Listen to it when you've got time to really absorb it. Yes, I know how douchey that sounds. No, I don't have a soul patch.

I guess I wouldn’t know much about the other bands but I did enjoy this too, really liked the vocals being much in the background with the focus on instruments.
