“Once in a Lifetime,” [Trump vs Talking Heads] by Swede Mason … (Parody / Satire – Music to Your Ears, Mock’n’Roll–3)

Many Americans have asked themselves, “My God! What have we done?!?!

Swedemason – “Once in a Lifetime”

“Once in a Lifetime” (2017, original from 1980 )

This is a brilliant remake / mashup of the classic Talking Heads video “Once in a Lifetime”  – with the quirky and bizarre character of David Byrne replaced by the dull, boring Donald Trump.

Remain in Darkness

The original “Once in a Lifetime”  appeared on Talking Heads 1980 album “Remain in Light.”   But about one month after it was released, darkness descended upon the USA, with the election of Ronald Reagan. Now, almost 4 decades on, the situation is gloomier and greyer. And it seems as if we will “remain in darkness”  a bit longer.

What Have We Done?!?

In the original, Byrne warned us that we might one day ask ourselves, “My God! What have I done!”  Since November 2016, many Americans have been asking themselves that very same question.

Let’s hope this Trump thing is something that occurs only “once in a lifetime,”  at most.    (Image source)

And you may find yourself living in a shotgun shack
And you may find yourself in another part of the world
And you may find yourself behind the wheel of a large automobile
And you may find yourself in a beautiful house, with a beautiful wife
And you may ask yourself, "Well... how did I get here?"

Letting the days go by, let the water hold me down
Letting the days go by, water flowing underground
Into the blue again after the money's gone
Once in a lifetime, water flowing underground

And you may ask yourself, "How do I work this?"
And you may ask yourself, "Where is that large automobile?"
And you may tell yourself, "This is not my beautiful house"
And you may tell yourself, "This is not my beautiful wife"

Letting the days go by, let the water hold me down
Letting the days go by, water flowing underground
Into the blue again after the money's gone
Once in a lifetime, water flowing underground

Same as it ever was, same as it ever was    [4 x]

Water dissolving and water removing
There is water at the bottom of the ocean
Under the water, carry the water
Remove the water at the bottom of the ocean

Letting the days go by, let the water hold me down
Letting the days go by, water flowing underground
Into the blue again, into the silent water
Under the rocks and stones, there is water underground
Letting the days go by, let the water hold me down
Letting the days go by, water flowing underground
Into the blue again after the money's gone
Once in a lifetime, water flowing underground

And you may ask yourself, "What is that beautiful house?"
And you may ask yourself, "Where does that highway go to?"
And you may ask yourself, "Am I right? Am I wrong?"
And you may tell yourself, "My God! What have I done?"

Same as it ever was, same as it ever was
Same as it ever was and look where my hand was
Time isn't holding up, time isn't after us

Same as it ever was, same as it ever was    [3x]

Letting the days go by, same as it ever was

Here a twister comes, here comes the twister
Same as it ever was, same as it ever was     [2x]
Once in a lifetime, let the water hold me down
Letting the days go by

Trust me, I love this quite funny song but of course a parody should not be anything less. I still can't imagine how Trump got to power. My God! What have they done? LOL

Thanks for sharing.

As I stated, many Americans are still in shock, asking themselves that question. And no answer is forthcoming.

It is really a pathetic situation, really. I hope he does not get a second term.

Hi @majes.tytyty

I could not help but laugh a lot with the paradia, but apart from laughing I must admit that the lyrics are great.
