Lou Reed Lyrics-5 – I’m gonna try for the kingdom (from “Heroin”)
Deepak Chopra once wrote something to the effect that “Addiction is essentially a search for ecstasy.” In these first two lines from his hallmark song “Heroin,” Lou expresses that truism so perfectly and honestly.
The junkie does not know exactly what he wants or where he’s going, but he realizes that he wants ecstasy, nirvana, the kingdom. And if a powerful narcotic can help him on his quest, it’s probably worth trying.

One of my favorite songs.
One of the best songs. A true, timeless classic. Still sends chills up my spine.
I love Lou Reed. I especially like David Bowie's rendition of Waiting for the Man on Live at the BBC.
Listening to it now. Very good, indeed. On par with the Velvets version.
I'd never heard this version before, only Bowie's version on an old bootleg from the early 70s (which was nothing special). So, you get extra marks (well, extra vote%) for introducing me to this.

I'm pleased that you like it. One of my age-old (age-young??) faves, too.
After Lou passed away, I listened to many of his songs that I had not heard in years. And I was astounded to realize how truly poetic they were. At the same time, I remember hearing them when I was a teenager and, while not fully comprehending them in any way, realizing that he was singing about things that I hoped one day to experience/ understand. Today, I've come to realize that essentially he was singing about "life." Brilliantly.
Over the past few years, I've made my way through most of his works (not all the later stuff), looking for more great lyrics. I found a lot, and compiled about 50 of the finest. Coming your way over the next few months.

I'm kind of addicted to computer, but as "Extra Credit" said in one of their videos.. it's not really an addiction, it's compulsion...
I think It's the illusion of happiness that I seek, It's not that it's a real happiness but the just forgetting you're sad for a moment.
Well, that the negative me doing the talking above... I play games, read stories and watch shows to learn how to craft stories by example, so it's not much of addiction.
I believe we are talking about different things here (Heroin is rally addictive drug, not compulsive thing like gaming), but I always say what's on my mind.

You're right.It's NOT worth it. As the next post will clarify, the powerful narcotic may feel good, but ultimately, it's very negative and destructive.
