Wonderful Gnaoua Festival
A story of faith and resistance ", it is with these words that Neïla Tazi, the founder of the Gnaoua Festival and world
music, begins her presentation of the 20th edition. This festival has highlighted the African identity of Morocco with its
Gnaoui theme. Gnaoui music is the fruit of slavery. Little regarded, even despised, this music has made the tour of the
world thanks to him. Essaouira is an ideal setting for fusion, a city where foreign artists give and receive gnawa masters
(maâlem). The impact of the festival goes beyond international recognition. We met the musician Loy Erhlich who was, for 12
years, artistic director of the festival as well as the Congolese pianist Ray Lema, a regular of the place.
Good Music.
