MIX TAPE VOL. 1--- (SIDE A)

in #music8 years ago

Remember the mix tape?

What's a tape? Is that like duct tape?

No, not really. It's how we listened to music,
in between the record and the CD,
except there was that 8-track thing. Boy, was that lame.

What's a CD?

It's the way we listened to music
before everybody just had music on their computer.

What do you mean?
Why didn't you just listen on your phone?

Never mind, a mix tape is like a 90 minute playlist you could take with you.

That's it? 90 minutes? You're kidding, right?

Nope. We didn't have Steemit, so we entertained ourselves,
in part, by making music collections to take with us when we were doing other things.

That sounds boring.

Yeah, it was, but it was the best we had.

Give this and a pencil to children and ask them what to do ;) Rewind the output tape!

remember to break the little tab out of the top corner, so no one will accidentally record over your tape.

Sitting next to the radio, ready to press record when that awesome song comes along!

Thanks for the comment.

sometimes I'd press record at the end of every song, so if it was the awesome song, I wouldn't miss a second, and then if it wasn't, pop the deck open and wind it back by hand.

Wow, that's true dedication! Most of the time, I just missed the first couple of seconds.

I think it comes from living in an era when things seemed more transient and ephemeral. If you didn't catch it, it might be gone forever. As Roy Batty said, "all those moments will be lost, in time, like tears in the rain". In those days, when a movie left the theater, you might never see it again, or so we thought. There are songs, that I heard on the radio, that I didn't find again until 25 years later, and only because of the internet. I've also found books that I searched used bookstores for decades to find, and did not, until Amazon.

Oh wow, how amazing is it that after decades, you finally do find what you're looking for :-)

It is even better that I can find things like this:
