RESEARCH: MUSIC MAKES MEN ATTRACTIVE IN THE EYES OF WOMEN

in #music7 years ago

Good evening friends, I do not know what time of day on your part of the planet, but I have an evening, and the evening is a time for music, I wanted to write a little about it, or rather about music and women.

Music durmans women - after listening to it, the men around seem to be handsome. What can we say about concerts and festivals - then the genes themselves are told to fall in love with someone. The connection of music with sexual attraction was studied by Austrian psychologists Manuela Marin from Innsbruck University and Helmut Leder from the University of Vienna. The research is reported on the site of the capital's university.

Charles Darwin also linked the emergence of music with the instinct of reproduction: the rhythm and abilities necessary for composing and executing melodies point to excellent genes (as well as external data). People are like songbirds - they are sweet on sweethearts. But this is according to Darwin. Empirical evidence of his hypothesis was not, so psychologists took on a little-studied topic.

In the psychological literature there is a theory of excitation transfer: a reaction to one stimulus can be superimposed on a reaction to another stimulus, increasing or decreasing the emotional response. "This unconscious mechanism can influence our actions, in particular, on the choice of a partner," explains Marin.

Psychologists conducted an experiment: they gave participants to listen to different music moods, and then showed them photos of people of the opposite sex. Participants needed to evaluate the attractiveness of the models and say whether they can imagine themselves in a relationship with the person depicted. Also, photos were shown to participants who did not listen to music.

It turned out that it was for women that the music acted magically: the participants, listening to piano sounds, put high marks on the photos of the men and said that they would go out with them on a date. The more difficult the songs were, the more emotional they caused.

Estimations of men from listening to music did not change in any way. Scientists will repeat the experiment, including more parameters in the focus of the study.

According to Leder, their experiment is somewhat reminiscent of the experience of social psychologists A. Aron and D. Dutton of the 1970s, based on the two-factor theory of emotions. The experiment was conducted on a narrow pedestrian bridge over a high ravine. In the middle of the bridge participants met a young beauty-instructor, who left them her phone number. Although men associated excitement with a sense of attraction to the girl, their emotions psychologists also explained the height of the bridge.
