People who are thinking about studying jazz piano, I often be asked about the age limit and the time to start studying the jazz piano, so today I will write about it.

ジャズピアノをこれから始める人から、年齢的な制限とか、時期などについてよく尋ねられるので、今日はそのことについて書いてみようと思います。

If you trying to study a jazz piano think that there are various cases, Whether it will be possible to play jazz or not, the answer is still the amount of practice.
Not only me but also the musicians I met in Berklee, the people who practiced severely became good. The era when I started jazz piano was not so important.

ジャズピアノを勉強しようとする人にはいろいろなケースがあると思うのですが、ジャズを演奏できるようになるかならないか、答えはやはり、練習量です。
僕の経験、あるいは、バークリーで出会ったミュージシャンたちを見ていても、演奏テクニックが伸びてゆくひとはよく練習しているひとで、始めた年齢は、あまり問題にならないようでした。

I began studying jazz piano at the age of 19. Until then it was so-called self-taught. I just played a rock guitar and played a favorite song on the piano. It was at the age of 24 that I started practicing jazz pianos seriously.

Although it was not an early start, by practicing iteratively I was able to study with Berklee receiving a scholarship.

僕自身、ジャズピアノを始めたのは、１９歳のときでした。それまでは、ロックギターを弾いたり、ピアノで好きな曲を弾いて遊んでいるだけの、いわゆる自己流で、本格的に練習を始めたのは、２４歳のときでした。

決して早いスタートではありませんでしたが、あせらず、こつこつ練習を重ねることで、バークリーでも、奨学金を受けて勉強をすることができました。

There was a pianist called me genius around me, and there were many wonderful players even musical instruments other than pianos.

I wanted to be like them, so I was able to endure a long practice time.

周りには、開校以来といわれた天才ピアニストがいたり、ピアノ以外の楽器でも、素晴らしいプレイヤーたちがいました。

僕は、彼らのようになりたいと思い、長い練習時間にも耐えることができたのだと思います。

I think that age is not a problem as long as long years of musician's longing, passion, strength of dreams, power of junior high school students and high school students' time can be reproduced.

Actually, my students also started jazz piano regardless of age, participated in sessions, and appeared in a live music club and enjoyed it.

中学生や高校生のときに持っていた、素晴らしいミュージシャンに対するあこがれや、情熱、夢の強さ、そのパワーを再現させることができれば、年齢は関係ありません。

実際に、僕の教えてきた生徒たちも、年齢に関係なくジャズピアノを始めて、セッションに参加したり、ライブハウスに出演したりして楽しんでいます。
