NZ MUSIC MONTH - PATEA MAORI CLUB
Could this be our un-official Anthem? Back in 1984 the Taranaki based Patea Maori club released Poi -E which shot to number 1 and stayed there for 4 weeks.
Dalvanius Prime released the song under his self made record label Maui records, Ngoi Pēwhairangi wrote the song
This song has been re released a couple of times and was used for the movie "Boy" - which is a great movie!
Dalvanuis Prime sadly passed away in October 2002 but wil lbe long remembered for his work with the Patea Maori club
This is the view looking north-west towards Mt Taranaki from the main street in Patea
Its great song and everyone knows the words.....
This is me @kiwiscanfly
This song just makes me feel so proud to be kiwi!!
yep a classic
This song make us proud
you got that right!!!
This still funks out all these years later!
yeah i agree - i remember when it came out, i must have been 12 years old
A-hem, I was much older than that and in a dance troupe with some of the dancers in the vid. The guy on skates at 2:36 was George who was renowned for skating round town , dancing on skates and breakdancing in Manners Mall.
I think I'll stick with Elvis...
Nah, bro, you'll never be a kiwi if you can't boogie down to a bit of Poi-E! Boogying down in my chair as I type. I was in a dance troupe with 3 of those 4 street dancers from 2 mins 36 to 2 mins 46.
