Bob Dylan - Fallen Angels
Bob Dylan's 2016 release, Fallen Angels, seems to be a tribute to many great artists of the past. At first it seemed most of the songs are Frank Sinatra cover tunes but according to Wikipedia, these songs go back even further than Sinatra.
Songs like, Young at Heart, and, It Had to Be You, are brought back to life with that unique Dylan sound and I ended up enjoying the album far more than I thought I would.
Perhaps the original artists of the past are the Fallen Angles of which he speaks. Someone is depicted playing cards on the cover and we all know that gambling is a sin. But hey, no one is perfect, and maybe we are all destined to become fallen angels sooner or later. Who knows?
The album moves along much more slowly than Sinatra's versions and without the Big Band in the background, everything comes off a little less aggressively confident. However, keep in mind that Dylan is 75 years young while performing these pieces. So slow down there cowboy, take it easy and let the man do his thing. There is wisdom and grace with age, I think you might enjoy it.
