SO FAR AWAY (Agust D/Min Yoongi/Suga): A song about being lost and without a dream
Imagine this:
You're sitting in a corner in a coffee shop alone with a steaming hot hazelnut latte in your mug on the table. You look around the mildly busy café and you see in a table or two, a group of students with eyes focused on their laptops, a couple of books spread open and a bunch of pens of different types and colors scattered on their space. Then on one side, you see what seems like a business man on his phone, probably checking his emails. On the couch by the window, there are two middle aged ladies, probably gossiping about what what's-her-face said in some PTA meeting.
You realized that these people seem like they have all these things going on their life, a life that's going somewhere and then there's you who's knees deep in worry because you have no fucking idea where your life is going, in fact you don't even know where the starting point is.
This song is about that feeling. No it's not a song of motivation but it's a song that expresses that feeling of helplessness and uselessness because you don't know what you're supposed to do with your life. That feeling of seeing everyone else moving about and running yet you seem stuck in place in the middle of that hustle and bustle of the crowd.
I find this song weirdly comforting 'coz it makes me feel like someone understands and that there's someone else somewhere who feels the same way as I do and in that weird thinking that humans do that as long as we're not alone, we can get through almost anything. That feeling of companionship even though I don't personally know them, the fact that I know that someone else is fighting the same fight I am makes me feel that I can win over this state of loss and dreamlessness.
This is song is a slow, mellow rap and a chorus of sweet vocals. It's written and produced by a member of BTS, Min Yoongi a.k.a. Suga. He produced this song in his mixtape under the name Agust D, which he released on his own, a project outside BTS itself. Featured are two of his friends who're also members of BTS, Kim Seokjin and Jeon Jungkook.
