What does music mean?
Sup Steem punks & Steem Princesses!
The question is not "what is the meaning of music?"......The question should be "What is the meaning of music to you?"
I havent met many people in my life who do not listen to music. Some will listen in passing or have songs they learned from their childhood. Others use it to cope with problems or to find escape. Point being, music is a deep part of the human connection. This comes in many forms and I certainly did not understand the concept of this until I worked in the music industry for 10 years.

Learning yourself.
When I was a lot younger, the only experience that I had with music was what my mother showed me on the radio. It mostly consisted of oldies and country music. When I hit about 4th grade (or something like that) I began buying cds and listening to different radio stations. I was into rock music. Especially loud, sad/angry, with a ton of emotion put into it. This trend continued for me for many years. I would jam with my headphones on and it began to reach into my soul as far as connection was concerned. I LOVED this feeling music was giving me. I could relate to these artists poetic lyrics. The punch that was supposed to be felt when they wanted to express a feeling to you. It was incredible! The feeling music gave me, the connection, was also something a ton of others had felt. I met a lot of people like me through my journey. We would go to shows and loved the energy of a live performance. There was nothing like it. You learn yourself through music and it happens naturally.

I found it hard to understand when people, say for example my father, didnt have much of a connection to music. What was even harder to understand was when people listened to music with LITERALLY no message other than to dance. This just didnt make sense to me. How could they pass off on the opportunity to listen to music with a deeper meaning? Or with a message at all? They listened to just ....garbage. I would back them up if this music was a composition with feeling, even if it didnt have singing. This was just a bass heavy beat with a simple melody on it. This was no genius composition. This was crap!
Surely this was a mistake and they were just idiots. Normies. They had no intellectual thoughts running through their brain. How can this be?![]()

I later came to a grand understanding. This is a valuable lesson for those who have bad things to say about certain music. Not everybody listens to music for the same reasons. A lot of people listen to music because it makes them feel good to dance. It doesnt have to be relateable to them for it to be impacting. Music can change someones life by just adding a smile to their face. To make them move their hips. They dont have to be invested in the lyrics, hell the song might not even have lyrics or any singing at all. This was a hard concept for me to grasp and I believe that other people keep their minds closed to this as well. Music is universal. It is in all of us. We all can relate through music, we just have to open our minds to other peoples connection. My connection to music may differ from yours, but we are the same in that we both listen. We both are human. Therefore we are connected.
