You Start dying when you stop growing.. Stay Relevant in your field always..
I was part of the media team for a major music fiesta that held in the city where I live
The first day of the event kicked off with a street carnival and to round off for that first day, Style Plus was there to perform.
Many of the people in the audience were born after Y2K so they didn’t react like they would have reacted if it was Olamide or Davido on the stage. Before they were through with their performance, more than half of the crowd had drifted off.
From their performance, it was obvious that they were trying too hard. Most of the people singing along were those in their mid-twenties and above.
I kept asking myself, “What happened to these guys?”
Singing along, even though I had forgotten some of their lyrics, brought back memories. These guys were GOOD at a point, their lyrics were tight and their stage act used to be impressive so what went wrong?
Even though my parents were quite strict with the kind of music we listened to while growing up, I managed to know them and their songs and I LOVED their songs.
From my point of view, I’d say they lost it at some point. They stopped growing. It showed in their performance that day, it showed in their voice.
Sadly, they are old stories of today. They only play their songs on throwback Thursdays and the worst part is that they’re still young, strong and capable of putting out powerful content if they decide to.
The world evolved and the music industry in Nigeria changed for good. Why didn’t they change as well? They had the right foundation to be present day icon but I guess they were too comfortable where they were. They lost their mojo at some point.
If today I meet ant member of Style Plus, I won’t recorgnise him.
I try to think of what goes on in their minds when they see those that used to be their counterparts back in the days still being relevant.
If you find something that works for you, Something you’re particularly good at, that thing that makes your soul shine, stick to it. Learn the skill required to monetize it. Find better ways of giving out value and get help.
Know that times will change and get ready to change with the times. If you want to remain relevant and keep doing that one thing that makes you stand out, you’ve got to be dynamic and fluid.

Don’t be a used to be. It’s a bad, unhappy place to be. Emprace change. Prepare for it even before it comes.
I don’t know their full story but these are some of the lessons I learnt from watching them perform that fateful day.
