The Birthday Massacre.
Last night I finally got to see one of my all time favorite bands, The Birthday Massacre. For whatever reason, over the past 6 years, anytime they've played in Chicago I was unable to attend. A lot of the times I was unfortunately out of town. So getting to see them live was indeed a long awaited experience.
TBM are a synth pop band out of Toronto, mixing upbeat synth sounds with heavy guitar riffs and darker lyrics. I'm drawn to the music, because it almost seems to laugh in the face of the more troubling things we experience in life. It's the type of music you can listen to when you're struggling, and after awhile you find yourself feeling better. It's the type of music you crank on the stereo while flying and singing along to loudly.
I truly believe that music can have a significant impact on a person's mood. TBM has been the among the music that has helped get me through breakups, the loss of friends, and the everyday shit that just starts to wear on me after awhile. I'm looking forward to getting to see them live again somewhere down the line.
