These three pieces of modern music touched by grace !

in #music6 years ago

It is well known that music softens morals. Although my strong taste for saturated guitars and an energetic rhythmic is no longer a secret to you, dear readers, I am nevertheless sensitive to any form of sound. It often happens to me to make an aside and to linger on a completely different genre and to the exact opposite of my preferences, so much these impressed me by the quality of their compositions but also by their capacities to transmit emotions. Today, I propose a musical moment a little different and which I hope will arouse your curiosity for these artists listed above.

For The Love Of Life - David Sylvain

The harmony and structure of a music are two essential components, allowing its audience to appreciate a work at its true value. Depending on the sensitivity of each individual, we will appreciate different sounds or modulations more than others. Few songs succeed in confirming to me in the idea that this one is perfect in its composition and in the different messages that the artist tries to transcribe, through the use of various instruments. This concern to offer a coherent whole but at the same time straddling two very different feelings, such as that of appeasement but also the anxiety rightly inserted in this composition, has succeeded in making me understand what David Sylvian tried to express on this song. Autodidact, singer/composer, David Sylvain was especially known for his career in the band Japan, a kind of melting pot with many influences, starting with the New-Wave and ending with the ambient with a progressive look.

Created for the anime Monster (which I recommend you to watch) in 2004, For The Love Of Life is an ambient track that alternates in a schizophrenic way between the sweetness of life and the anguish of seeing time go by without being able to control it. The vocalization is intended to be reassuring, while following a progression that subtly blends strings and layers of atmospheric sounds. A little musical gem that easily achieves its goal from the first listening.

Austin Wintory - I Was Born For This

Austin Wintory is not a musician like the others since he has distinguished himself by participating in the musical coverings of several video games. Among his various feats of arms, however, one composition caught my attention at a time when I didn't expect it. It was during a game of Journey that I had the chance and the honour to listen to this sublime composition which clearly did not leave me unscathed during my experience with this game. It was with a heavy heart and feverish hands that I was Born for This accompanied me in my last moments of existence in this universe. Making music universal, which affects a large majority of people, is a rather delicate exercise. However, this work is exemplary on this point as it directly challenges you and brings out melancholy.

The exceptional voice of Lisbeth Scott is crescendo, starting with a softness and candor that invites you to literally transport yourself in the sounds generated by harps and other violins, the end of the journey increases with intensity until it reaches its peak without being overwhelming. Finally, the journey gradually fades away and disappears without a trace... Like an existence filled with surprise and discovery but ultimately futile when it disappeared. The lyrics alternate between different dialects including Latin, English, French, Greek and Japanese. When we know that this music tells the lament of Jeanne d'Arc to God, when she found herself at the point of death, we better understand the emotional turn of the composition.

Dead Can Dance - The Host Of Seraphim

To conclude, what could be better than to end this article with the sublime and timeless work produced by Dead Can Dance in 1988 : The Host Of Seraphim. A monument of grace, a concentration of emotions undoubtedly inspired by the heavens. More than funeral, this song is an ode to despair and lament. All the sadness and despair of an angel, crying over the fate of men, simple mortals facing famine, war, disease and finally death. All these misfortunes are perceptible in the voice of Lisa Gerrard who is sometimes not far from the rupture sometimes but who describes with accuracy and metaphorically the distress of a soul in pain.

If a biblical cataclysm were to strike our land, The Host Of Seraphim would clearly be the soundtrack! There are many indescribable things that I could not put on paper about this powerful and engaging composition. The best thing is to make your own opinion!
