Song of the Day - The President is Gone by John Carpenter

Halloween is sneaking up on us and it's time for me to relish in some of the works of John Carpenter. Yeah, that John Carpenter. You probably know him from his film work, but he also has a long history in composing electronic music and his own film scores, much of it which is really great.

I don't want you to be turned off from this post thinking it is something political based on the title of the song. It isn't. Rather the title is taken from the Escape From New York soundtrack and is pretty fitting for its spot in the movie. I first came into this track via an excellent compilation from the Innervisions crew which was about exploring the history of minimalism in electronic music. This track is short, but features some absolutely lovely arpeggio work that carries the entire thing. Some spooky strings set this thing up pretty well for soundtrack work, but it stands up pretty well on its own.
