Song of the Day - Hounds Of Love (Phones' Wolves at the Door Mix) by The Futureheads

in #music6 years ago

Today has been all about mid-2000s nostalgia. Starting off with some Kaiser Chiefs and Death From Above 1979, I find myself closing out on this track. Here's the deal, this song is a weird mash of things that I love.

  1. I loved this style of high energy indie rock at the time. The Futureheads were pretty high up my list of bands operating in this area with just the right energy and fun injected into their music.
  2. Also it is a cover of a fantastic Kate Bush song that is smart enough to not try and replicate her music. It's a cover that has her fantastic lyricism but manages to stand on its own from the original.
  3. Man, The Phones really turned out a peak time remix here that knows how to shape the pieces of the original into something for the dance floor. The Phones is the 2000s production name of Paul Epworth. His career trajectory has been insane to watch as he's progressed from producing remixes to scoring a mega hit with writing credits on Adele's Rolling in The Deep, to the A-List producer he is now.

Look, this is a high energy track with great vocals and just enough surprises and emotional depth to power though a dull day. Love this one.
