Song of the Day - Seven Notes in Black by High Contrast
Super chill night. Wife convinced me to do a cleansing face mask while we watched Kill Bill tonight. Not too shabby for a Tuesday.
While watching Kill Bill I was reminded how good the soundtrack is. While that film shot A Twisted Nerve and Bang Bang into the popular consciousness, the lesser known star for me is The Vince Tempera Orchestra’s Seven Notes In Black. Originally composed by Fabio Frizi for the film Sette Note In Nero, it’s atmospheric yet unsettling melody that can get stuck in your head for days.
Inadvertently, this song also has the habit of getting this drum and bass banger stuck in my head simultaneously as it samples the original to great effect. I don’t delve into DnB too much, but much of High Contrast’s work in this era has a special spot for me. This kicks. Enjoy.

Tarantino has always been aware of the power of good music in his films. Not just the tunes, but the way he drops them in the movies is just great!

Tarantino has this way with music in his films that just feels honest. Like you can trace his influence with the songs he uses and I always appreciate that watching his films. Kill Bill is just full of this stuff. I could probably do a whole list of tracks his movies have exposed me to, though my favorite is definitely Dave Dee,Dozy,Beaky,Mick & Tich's Hold Tight which just kills. I even did an edit of it many years ago for DJ sets.
