Adrian Rowe - The Ignorant Void [ORIGINAL TECHNO w/ Visuals]

in #music8 years ago (edited)

Tonight I uploaded a new track.

Several hours later I decided it would be cool to mess around with some GIF looping inside of Ableton because lets face it, everyone like GIFs.

Now I've got some visuals to go with the song I made.

I wrote a much more complicated post about the track earlier and I'll post it below.

Two weeks ago I got what is easily the nicest piece of equipment I've ever owned as a treat for selling my house: an Arturia MatrixBrute. Over the past two weeks I've been getting to know it and this track is the result of those experiments. It's definitely Techno and more on the experimental side at that.

Here are some notes about the track and art:

This is honestly more of a jam session than anything. This whole song was recorded in about 2 hours, which is pretty fast for me. There just came a point really early where I thought "well... this is done."

If you've been following my blog for a while, you might notice a recent obsession with Blawan. After listening to his newest album today, I sought out to try and emulate his percussion. It's not even close, but I learned a new technique today by taking loops I recorded in and going nuts with warp markers, transposing, and time stretching those loops to manually place all the hits. Gives this more of a swing I think and it's definitely a technique I'll be experimenting with more.

That synth is all MatrixBrute recorded in one solid take. It's not something I do often, but letting the sequencer go while getting weird on the knobs was crazy fun and much of the texture of this track comes from it.

As normal, there is just a touch of Reaktor on here. This time running a small sample of the synth through The Mouth like it is a resonator to create a drone like synth that gives some texture to the background. Not terribly interesting, but a fun way to work and stay in key!

The cover art is just some simple photo edits of my bathroom door. It just looks ominous. I dig it.

I'm also uploading this to Choon and Soundcloud. Take your pick where you want to hear it at.

Enjoy and let me know what you think.

Omg I love this, teach me your ways o great master x'D I wanna get better with percussion but I don't play percussion. All I have is my synth, understanding of music theory, and fl studio.

If you know stuff on that, can you recommend any good source for samples or vsts outside of the normal included ones for a good, round variety of sounds? I'm into a similar genre and sound but a lot more melodic because my main instrument, besides saxophone and flute which I dont play for making music, is vocals.

Any advice is appreciated, I know the basics and understand mixing but I'm still figuring out the nature of certain effects and am willing to put money down on an essential number of things to give me things to work with while I otherwise learn.

very cool visuals and track, I see you are enjoying the Matrix Brute. Ot is a big synth, must be big fun!. Congrats on recording the synth part in one take, I think it's the way to go in order to keep things interesting and fun.

You know, for some old Max For Live video blender I had laying around I think this came out pretty decent and it is definitely me testing the waters on doing something more complicated. I’ll be trying to do more stuff like this in the future.

Also, thanks for recognizing how difficult it can be to do live takes like this. Hardware can be fun but very hard to control. I think that’s why I liked your old live jam videos so much. I recognized the amount of control and restraint you had in them and I know that’s a big talent. For instance, the synth in this track is a massive sound but it’s really just one note every bar, that’s how wild and self oscillating it is.

Thanks for the support once again and being so active in the techno scene on here.

Two hour duration is enough.

I have absolutely zero knowledge about technical side of the music. Producing is like a black magic for me, completely unknown territory, but after the first listening I must admit that it sounds very interesting, with every loop you design a bigger, darker and heavier vibe. I like the fact how similar is our musical taste :)
