'The Peaceful Giant's Cave' - New Original Music/Steem Monsters Art Contest Submission! Electronic/Videogame/Instrumental + Walkthrough!
I wanted to write another
song for the Steem Monsters art contest currently going on, and I figured it would be cool to do a follow-up to my last submission, in the same sort of retro videogame/arcade sort of style. I feel like these 2 songs would definitely be in the same game, as the instruments are similar, but it's definitely not as "foresty" as the previous one. It had a bit of a majestic element, but also was kind of dark, so I imagined an RPG knight wandering into the cave of the Peaceful Giant and discovering the giant creature.
Listen to The Peaceful Giant's Cave here.
Harmonically, there is a
little less happening in this song, which I think worked for the general sort of RPG/retro game feel. Tracks 1, 2 and 5 are all playing our main progression, which consists of 3 parts: Grey is our Chorus I suppose (in Emajor), Blue our Verse (in Eminor), and Yellow a variation on the Verse where we begin on the Vi instead of the i of E minor. I have attached a screenshot below of the Grey section of the progression. We are in Emajor, but begin with a Flat Vi (Cmaj) to Flat Vii (Dmaj), up to our tonic.
The main progression, Grey (E major) section.
Our last 2 tracks are
#3, which is our bass, and Track 4 our drums. The bass is a really basic synth-bass sort of sound, and follows the root notes mostly. I began with a much more complicated bass part, with lots of harmonization, but it felt like a bit too much and after re-listening I think that was the right call. Our drums are simple, beginning with a snare of the 3, then picking up a bit during our second Chorus through the second Blue verse with snares on the 2 and 4, back to the third beat for the Yellow verse, and once again returning to the 2/4 rock sort of beat.
I hope you enjoy the song! Definitely check out the contest here and support the contestants with some upvotes!
