'Rider in the Night' - New Original Music/Remixing of an Old Track! Electronic/Industrial/Instrumental + Walkthrough!
So this is another song that
I did around the same time as "Ride on the Darkhorse". It's in the same vein, sort of gothy/industrial Electronic, although this one isn't really hiphoppy in the same way, it's a lot faster and heavier. I always loved the part when the bass comes in, the distorted, portamento effect worked awesome here, and once I "mastered" this track a bit (using compressors, saturators, EQ etc.) the other night, it sounded instantly more full and interesting. I hadn't ever really focused on "finalizing" these songs, as they were sort of just for fun/practice in songwriting, but now that I've learned more how to do that, it's fun to go back through older tunes and really make them pop. Let's go through it!
Listen to Rider in the Night here.
Track 1 begins the song,
with the ambient, floaty sort of weirdness. Track 3 comes in next, supplying what sounds sort of like a squishy, electric kick drum (using just a stab-synth instrument, super low-octave). This little build up drops us into the main progression of Track 2, which continues for the rest of the song. Using Track 3 again, we have a second build, and then the drums come in, and finally a third build up for the bass, then a break, then we fade out with the full song playing.
Track 2, described above.
Track 4 is our drums
which mostly stick to the same general beat. Our kick drum follows the same rhythm as Track 3 at the end of each 8 bar section, with a super fast build up that gives us a cool glitchy effect, which fit nicely with the general feel of the song. Track 5 is just a reverb-laden, low-synth that helps transition us between sections and build things up a bit.

Track 6 is the heavy distorted bass
that comes in next, which is my favorite part of this song. The portamento effect on the instrument allows us to get an awesome sort of slide/bend effect at the beginning of the progression. We are in C minor here, and basically stay on C, then up to F# (tritone) and back to C, then Eb back to C, and finally up to F#, then we move in whole tones to Ab to Bb, bringing us back to C.
Track 6, the bass, described above.
Track 7 comes in after the first time
through the bass progression, and continues through the rest of the song aside from the break. It basically plays a Cminor chord with an octave on top, but the 5th moves up to an Ab, then back to G, then down to an F#, before playing the whole tone progression of F#, Ab and Bb. along with the bass. Our final track is #8, which actually begins much earlier in the song, and compliments Track 1, adding another ambient/floaty sort of progression in the background.

Track 7, described above.
I hope you've enjoyed this new version of the song and found the walkthrough interesting! Thanks for listening!
