I know, I know,

another solo-piano practice tune... I feel like I've been really hooked on doing this lately, haha. It's fun cause I can sit down for 20/30 minutes and just sort of jam until I find something interesting, save it, and move on. While I like spending time producing songs and really working hard on sections, it's really refreshing to sometimes just let it out, and hope for the best. This song sounds really cool, I'll definitely be taking at least parts of it and making them into something larger.

Listen to Greco-Romano here.

Like yesterday's song

I separated the two 'hands'. I find it a little easier to map out the chords/bass/left hand first, then build a melody off it. However, since I've done that for last few songs, I'm gonna change it up and start writing some melodies, then finding chords that work with it for the next couple tunes. This song is also in 7/4, and it's a LONG 7, so it has a really cool feeling.
We have 3 sections in Track 1 (left hand): Grey, Neon Blue, and the darker Blue.

  • The Grey section uses a Bbsus2 Lydian chord (sharp 4 added, and the major 3rd suspended to the second).

  • The Neon Blue uses an Ab6.

  • And, the Darker Blue section plays a GminAdd4#13 (giving us a Dorian sound)

Track 2 plays a little melody

which plays over the 1st of every 2 chords in each section. The Grey section plays the first time through, but then it becomes the Black section, which has a little lydian line at the beginning that really makes it stand out. The screenshot above shows the progression starting on the Black section, with the Neon and Darker Blue following it.

I hope you've found the walkthrough interesting, and enjoy today's tune! Thanks for listening!
