The Beatles - I'm Only Sleeping

It has been a surprising

amount of time since I've done a Beatles/Beatles-related song, so we're definitely long past due. In case somehow you're not aware, The Beatles are widely regarded as one of the most important band's of the last century (and perhaps all time), and helped to propel rock music from the novelty/trendy spot it held in pop-culture, to a serious art form. Their experimentation with production and songwriting has influenced countless musicians and generations, and their impact can still be seen in modern artists. (Wikipedia - The Beatles)

Listen to I'm Only Sleeping by The Beatles here.

This song is from the band's

1966 album, Revolver, the second of two albums released within a year (the first being Rubber Soul, in 1965). While the band had matured lyricially and in their writing on Rubber Soul, Revolver was an even bigger leap, incorporating incredible production techniques to achieve all kinds of out-there sounds and tones, Indian influenced instrumentation, and much more poetic, and often inscrutable, lyrics. This song uses a pretty basic chord pattern, sticking to open chords generally, but they modulate keys between the Verse and Chorus, changing from Emin to Amin, then seamlessly back again. While the band wasn't trained in music theory, they had an incredible ear (collectively) which they used to great effect.

Enjoy today's song! Thanks for checking out my blog, and Steem On!
