Opeth - Slither

Opeth is a really interesting band

in the world of metal. They formed in 1989, but over time, all of the original members eventually left and were replaced. By 1992, singer/guitarist/lead-songwriter Mikael Åkerfeldt had joined the band, and would become the main force behind the band from then on, and the only member to stay through every incarnation. Early in their career they were much more of a straight Death Metal band, but over time, they have incorporated more progressive and experimental elements.

Listen to Slither by Opeth here.

This song is from their 2011

album Heritage, which I personally think is an absolute masterpiece. It clearly was heavily influenced by '60s and '70s prog. rock, and they completely avoid "modern" heavy metal in almost every sense. The vocals are absolutely amazing through the whole album, and this song in particular. The guitar, bass and drums all have incredible tones, clearly influenced by older rock/metal, but with modern production and clarity.

Enjoy today's song! Thanks for checking out my blog, and Steem On!
