Grapthar's Song of the Day: Melt-Banana 'Spathic'
Melt-Banana - Spathic
Melt-Banana is a Japanese
noise-core/grind band, known for using insane digital effects and having blazingly fast, short songs. Their albums are usually some combination of "full-length" songs, and a bunch of SUPER short, crazy ones. They have incrediblely wild, energetic live shows, and their guitarist was known for using crazy tones long before you could pedals to achieve everything; he would customize synths and various other electronics to be combined with his guitar to achieve musical madness.
Listen to Spathic by Melt-Banana here.
This song appears on their
album, "Charlie" and was one of the first I heard that initially got me into the band. I love singer Yasuko's high-pitched, manic vocal style, over the super fast grind-core blast beats, and the insane guitar work of Ichiro Agata. They lost their drummer and bassist a few years ago, and began touring as a 2 piece, using various tools to trigger digital drums and effects, which seems like it might not work, but totally fits with their experimental, crazy aesthetic.
