Grapthar's Song of the Day: Cursive 'Butcher the Song'
Cursive - Butcher the Song
Cursive is a really unique
punk/indie/emo band formed in 1995 in Omaha, NE by singer/guitarist Tim Kasher. The current line up of the band consists of Kasher on guitar and lead vocals, Matt Maginn on bass, Ted Stevens on guitar, and Clint Schnase on drums. They have written some really interesting music, incorporating a lot of instruments from "outside" the punk/emo genre, like strings and horns, sometimes even abandoning all the traditional "rock" instruments.

This song is from their acclaimed
album The Ugly Organ, released in 2003. I love the main riff, which begins the song, it is SO heavy and dark, and really sets the general mood here. The production on this album (and song in particular) is amazing, They did an amazing job layering the parts; everything has its own really well defined place sonically, as well as harmonically. If you dig this song, check out the full album. I think this is by far the darkest song on, but it works really nicely with the songs placed around it.
Enjoy today's song! Thanks for checking out my blog, and Steem On!
