'Floatations 2' - New Original Music! - Expanded Version of Yesterday's Song + Walkthrough of the Changes!
As you can see from the overview
screenshot above, I changed some things up since I shared the initial sort of “shell” of this song yesterday. The piano part now has a bit of a “verse” (in Blue, Tracks 1 and 2), along with some other little additions including some beepy little synth parts, and an extra layer of the piano’s harmonies on an ‘80s sounding synth. Let’s go through the new parts/changes!
Listen to Floatations 2 here.
In the piano part (first 2 tracks),
the new parts are in the Blue sections, and things change a bit to break up the song and make it less repetitive. The Eb in the “soprano” section drops down to a D, while all the other notes below essentially trade places. The low G/C moves up to where the A/D was, and the A/D drops down to where the G/C was. Simple change, but completely alters the flow of the harmony.
Tracks 5 and 6, described below.
Tracks 5 and 6 are also new additions
and only happen over certain sections of the song. Essentially they are both playing a high C, but the rhythm bounces back and forth between the 2 tracks, which are both hard-panned to opposite sides. I felt that there needed to be a little something else going on, as it was too repetitive initially.
Listen to Floatations 2 here.
Track 7 is just a water-droplet
sort of sound, and is used at the beginning of each section. Track 8 (buzzy, ’80s synth tone) mirrors the progression that the piano parts play above it, but is sidechained with a compressor to the drums, so it sort of just floats in and out of the song. Turned out to be a cool effect.
Tracks 9 and 10, described below.
Tracks 9 and 10 both play
the same little progression during the 1st measure each time around, with 9 panned hard right and 10 to the left. You can see the little line above in the screenshot. I did this initially by accident, but liked how it accented certain parts (every 4 bars of 4/4). Because of the weird piano progression, this does NOT line up with the beginning and middle of the section in an interesting way.
Hope you have enjoyed the changes! This is definitely still a demo, I need to remix the whole thing, it's a bit too bassy, but when I do, I'll be sure to make another post and discuss the changes! Thanks for listening!
