Grapthar's Song of the Day: Disheveled Cuss - 'She Don't Want'

of modern bands/artists, today's pick is Disheveled Cuss. It's the solo project of guitarist/singer Nick Reinhart, who is part of a number of bands I'm a big fan of: Tera Melos, Bygones, Big Walnuts Yonder and many more. Disheveled Cuss is his newest project, and has elements of Tera Melos style ideas, but used in a very different context. Reinhart has an incredible, unique style of guitar playing which has evolved and morphed over the years; early on, he was known for wild, polyrhythmic tapping madness, then strange, dissonant, effect laden parts, which have slowly culminated into something more songwriting oriented that has become entirely his own. Although he doesn't get a lot of mainstream attention, his sound is definitely influencing a lot of young guitar players who discover his music.

Disheveled Cuss moniker, a self-titled, which came out in June of this year on Sargent House records, which has released most of his other projects, along with an incredible array of other artists who all are breaking new ground in various ways. While Reinhart's signature weirdness is definitely mixed in throughout the songs on the album, these release very much has a 90s/alt-rock influence that isn't present in the more math-rock heavy music he has previously released. There are some awesome, incredibly catchy choruses, which definitely are influenced by bands like the Pixies, though he manages to incorporate some odd meters and interesting dissonances in to give each track a unique little twist.
