This song is a filler track

that I used before the closer on EP 5. I want to one day expand this into a whole song, using the same themes but adding some harmonic changes rather than just repeating, but in the meantime I'm really happy with how this came out. It's under a minute, but works nicely to lead into the closing track. The song is also in 7/4, which I initially wanted to use so it would sound kind of angular, but as I added the instruments, it wound up being a lot more fluid and connected, which although unintentional, worked out great. Let's get into the 3 instruments!

Listen to "53" here.

There are no drums on this track,

just 3 instruments. There is a 4th track pictured in the overview, but it doesn't play anything. Initially it played a melody over this, but I found that it didn't seem to fit, and the simplicity of it all without a 4th track worked a lot better. Track 1 is the main little melody line. It's the "lapharp" synth tone, which has a piano sort of tone, or kind of harpsichord-esque; it's a little more percussive than a typical piano. We are in Cmajor, and Track 1 plays a simple little melody: C, A, E, and D then repeats. The 7/4 portion becomes obvious with the final D, as it feels like the C is rushed back in, a beat early.

Next up is Track 2,

which is a synth-pad called "Labyrinth". I really like the timbre of this, it is super ambient and floaty, but still has an orchestral string sort of element that works nice for harmonies. Basically, it plays a low and high C the whole time, but the harmonies in the middle change, moving us from C major to F major, back and forth. Simple, but effective. It really made the Track 1 melody sound a lot prettier.

Last up is Track 3 which plays

a simple 2 notes every 2 measures: E and F. These are in a higher register, and the instrument used has a wobbly sort of chorus effect, in addition to being sort of "theraminy". The E is the 3rd in the C major Track 2 plays, and then it moves up a 1/2 step to the F, as Track 2 moves to F major. Once I added this track, the whole thing sort of came together, and flowed nicely into the final song on the EP.

That's all for this one, just a short, pretty little track. If you want to hear it in context, check out the links below the song to all 5 EPs I have shared, it's on EP 5. Thanks for the support, and as always, Steem On!
