The Faint - Falling Out Of Love At This Volume

The Faint are a band that have

The Faint, 2000/2001 Era
long been a personal favorite, ever since I first heard them in high school, probably around 2002. Their discography is incredibly varied, as the band's sound morphed quite a bit over time, starting as an indie rock group, then a sort of dance/electro punk thing, into more 'fully' an electronic band, then back to some punk influences, etc. Their songs are always super solid, using really cool sounds and tones, and solid, catchy structures that make them absolute ear worms. The group was originally formed in 1995 in Omaha, NE, with Connor Oberst of Bright Eyes in the original incarantion. However, after he left the band went through a few changes, though Todd Fink and his brother Clark Baechle have always been the center of the band, keeping it going through changes in members.

This song is actually a cover version of an old Bright Eyes

The Faint, Danse Macabre (2001, Saddle Creek Records)
song, though Oberst was long gone from the band at this point. It was released as a B-side for the single Agenda Suicide, from their 2001 album Danse Macabre. It was recorded in those same sessions, along with a couple of other unreleased songs, which I only recently discovered thanks to Spotify including them on a new version of the album. I'm surprised they didn't appear on the album, as they're all great, and absolutely fit with the super electronic vibe. This album was the first where they completely left rock/punk guitars, bass and acoustic drums behind, and instead went in an entirely synthpop/dance direction. The original version of this song is in a major key, though in this cover, they instead move everything into the parallel minor key. The melody is still obviously the same track, but with the change in harmony behind it, it really feels like an entirely different song, making it one of the coolest covers, in my opinion.

Enjoy today's song! Thanks for checking out my blog, and Steem On!
