Funkitecht - Capricorn (FREE 2 USE)
Capricorn is long. At 8 minutes 43 seconds, it's the longest track I have written without assistance from other musicians.
I really hoped that it was well developed and could sustain someones interest as I understand that music can often become its own worst enemy with repetition being the main culprit.
I do however stand by the belief that this track has enough layering to allow for repetition to occur, with various undertones and overarching layers enveloping the beat as the track.
Pulsing notes (not unlike that of electronica/rave) work effectively to maintain longevity, the pulse can swell in and out of the track but never feel invasive, this helped establish how much of a certain part may go for without being overbearing at later stages.
Here is an example showing a constant "pulse" through notation.
Much of the melodies involved are just evolutionary variants on an original melody line, meaning all parts could work together thanks to the way the notes harmonize but never need to all be played in the same place.
This is an example of two notes being played simultaneously to create harmonized sounds, simple in theory but exceptional as a soundscape.
I now had a huge mix of "sections" at my disposal and they were all unattached without odd clashes in rhythms. So to counter this I wrote a simple melody line that would act as a kind cue to establish changes in the track.
Honestly, I wasn't sure if I would keep this but since the nature of the track began to grow and with it the multiple layers that had been introduced as it was written, the more the "Cue" began to make sense.
As always, it is free to use for whatever projects you may have and I look forward to hearing your thoughts!
